Shrink Your Footprint
Fair: First Year A Success!
About 225 people braved the rain on March 13th, for the Shrink
Your Footprint Fair. The free half-day Saturday event was held
at the Greater New Bedford Regional Voc Tech High School, and
featured workshops for adults, teens, and families on how to live
an environmentally friendly lifestyle, economically. Live music,
and free food and drink were provided. Exhibitors included over
25 local green businesses, four local schools, and more than 10

SEEAL to Launch Southcoast
Energy Challenge
To engage and mobilize all Southcoast citizens to work toward
reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The goal of the project will
be regional reduction of over 100 million pounds of CO2, and the
weatherization of more than 10,000 homes, within the first year.
SEEAL partners leading the way include the Marion Institute, UMass
Dartmouth Office of Sustainability, SRPEDD, SEMAP, and the Ocean

activists urge leaders to think '350'
On October 24th, more than 400 people gathered downtown New Bedford,
rallying around a magic number: 350. That's what world scientists
say should be the upper limit of carbon dioxide parts per million
in the atmosphere. As part of the 5th Annual Bioneers By the Bay,
this rally was one of 5,200 events in 181 countries across the
world. Participants were asking world leaders to reduce carbon
emissions 80% by 2050. read

The mission of the Energy Office is to increase energy efficiency
and conservation, facilitate resource savings, minimize the city's
carbon footprint, and expand use of renewable energy in city owned
and operated facilities. The Director will encourage use of, and
lower barriers to, energy efficiency and renewable energy, for

Jay Coburn! After an extremely coordinated and efficient effort
by the Search Committee, led by SEMAP's Board President Carolyn

TO LEAD LLOYD CENTER EDUCATION
Dartmouth, MA - The Lloyd Center is pleased to announce that,
following the unanimous vote of its Education-Director Search
Committee, Rachel Stronach, of Fall River (MA), accepted the Center's
call to be it next Director of Education. Ms. Stronach was selected
following a lengthy process of discernment by the search committee,

AWARDS $68,000 IN GRANTS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS
AND GREEN JOBS TRAINING
SEEAL has awarded $68,000 in grants to to environmental education,
stewardship, and sustainability-related projects in New Bedford.
Grants have been awarded as part of “Sustainable New Bedford,”
a two-year project, funded for 2008 and 2009 by the Environmental
Protection Agency. SEEAL is the subcontractor of the award and
has carried out project goals for the City of New Bedford. read

Green Jobs, Green Economy Initiative
in New Bedford
The Marion
Institute, in collaboration with local organizations, the
New Bedford Economic
Development Council and the Mayor's Office, announces the
creation of the Green Jobs, Green Economy Initiative. The objective
of the initiative is two-fold: to ensure that New Bedford accesses
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding - which
will support green business and green job development - and to
ensure that the city's initiatives specifically benefit and are
accessible to low income communities and communities of color
in the city. The overarching goal is to help New Bedford become
a national leader in the green jobs and sustainability movement.

Weatherization
Partnership gets $40K to train older youth
The Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board Inc., in partnership
with the UMass Dartmouth Office of Campus and Community Sustainability,
the Greater New Bedford Career Center, and Bristol Community College’s
Center for Business and Industry, received a collaborative award
for just over $40,000 to implement the Southcoast Massachusetts
Weatherization Technician Training Program.
