Position Open: SouthCoast Conservation Corps Coordinator

SEEAL has recently announced its newest project, the SouthCoast Conservation Corps, and we are looking for a fearless project leader!

Project Overview: To build upon our partners’ existing youth conservation workforce programming, SEEAL will launch the SouthCoast Conservation Corps (SCCC), in Summer 2011. SCCC will employ youth Members ages 16-18, and older youth Leaders, ages 19-24, to complete sustainability-related community projects and expand their occupational and leadership skills. While supported by the full 25-partner SEEAL, Lead Partners will include: Mass Audubon, Workforce Investment Board, UMass Dartmouth Civic Engagement Office, Brix Bounty Farm, and the Old Bedford Village Development Corps.

SCCC Coordinator Scope of Services: The primary focus of the program coordinator will be to assist with stakeholder engagement, program development, and recruitment and selection of Crew Leaders and Members. The ultimate goal will be to help build and successfully run the conservation summer program, as well as develop it into a sustained, ongoing, year-round initiative.

UMass Dartmouth Releases Sustainability Report

UMass Dartmouth becomes a global leader in university sustainability reporting

The 3rd annual UMass Dartmouth University Sustainability Report has been released, a publication led by Charlton College of Business MBA students at the university.

Students complete the report as an experiential learning assignment in a core class of the MBA curriculum: Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Law.

The 2010 University Sustainability Report follows the world’s most-widely used framework for producing sustainability reports: the GRI G3 standards, as established by the Global Reporting Initiative.

80% of Global Fortune 250 companies use this sustainability-reporting framework for highlighting their triple bottom line: economic, environmental and economic impacts, including companies such as Wal-Mart and Microsoft.

UMass Dartmouth is the world’s first university to produce and publish a sustainability report that achieves an A level of compliance with the G3 standard, available at the GRI website: www.globalreporting.org.

The Sixth Annual Connecting for Change: A Bioneers by the Bay Conference will be presented by the Marion Institute, in the historic Downtown of New Bedford, MA, on October 22-24, 2010. The conference is an internationally acclaimed annual gathering of environmental, industry and social justice innovators who have demonstrated visionary and practical models for restoring the Earth and its inhabitants.

The Marion Institute announces Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea, Annie Leonard producer of Story of Stuff, Van Jones, award-winning pioneer in human rights and the clean-energy economy, and many more as keynote speakers for the Sixth Annual Connecting for Change

Over 2,000 students, teachers, green business innovators, scientists, grassroots leaders and everyday folks from across the East Coast will gather to embrace, share, brainstorm, network, heal, learn, teach, celebrate, recharge and connect for change. We will roll up our sleeves and harvest tangible, practical solutions to the specific challenges we face here in the Northeast and the world at-large.

We have planned a rather remarkable three days of live keynote presentations, afternoon workshops, a inclusive family program, an extensive Youth Initiative program, a downlink of the 21st Annual Bioneers Conference in California, an exhibition hall featuring sustainable businesses and organizations, a community action center, films, music, art installations, a farmers’ market and local & organic food.

As a national Beaming Bioneers Conference site, we join nineteen other sites throughout the entire country in producing a local Bioneers Conference. We will be telecasting plenaries from the main San Rafael Bioneers Conference, which is in its 21st year, each afternoon.

SEMAP (Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership)
Executive Director – Accepting Applications Until March 1st

The purpose of SEMAP is to benefit the health and well-being of citizens of and visitors to the five Southeastern Massachusetts counties (Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Nantucket, and Dukes) by engaging with, educating, and building partnerships among the regional community, businesses, and farmers to support and expand sustainable commercial agriculture and assure an abundant supply of locally produced agricultural products.

The SEMAP Executive Director will actively seek economic development, will provide leadership for the operations of SEMAP, will maintain and develop SEMAP’s signature programs and services, and will work with and report to the SEMAP Board of Directors. The Executive Director will advocate for local agricultural issues, will serve as SEMAP’s chief public spokesperson, will oversee administration for the organization, including standing and ad hoc committees, and will supervise 2 to 5 full and part-time staff members, as well as consultants, contractors, and/or interns.

The Marion Institute (MI) seeks a Development Fundraising Professional to join the Executive Director and MI team. We are looking for a person who is excited by the prospect of leading and managing all aspects of MI’s fundraising. Founded in 1993, the Marion Institute is a member based non-profit that acts as an incubator for a diverse array of programs and projects that delve into the root cause of an issue and seeks to create deep and positive change. Working closely with the Executive Director as well as the Board, the Development Fundraising Professional will be responsible for shaping and executing the overall MI approach to generating financial support.

The job will require: the annual fundraising strategy and calendar, special fundraising projects such as capital campaigns, challenge grants, planned giving development, grant writing and reporting, prospect identification and cultivation, event planning and implementation, communication expertise, database management and the annual appeal.

Senior Program Leader, Climate Change and Energy

As one of the nation’s oldest independent environmental research centers, Manomet is developing innovative models for businesses and communities to forge new partnerships for creating a sustainable planet.

The Senior Program Leader will direct and grow a major new project on climate change adaptation with national implications. Working with stakeholders in four major rural landscape sectors and at two spatial scales, the Senior Program Leader will develop and implement strategies to build climate change resiliency into critical ecosystem services. The position reports to the Climate Change and Energy Initiative Director. The position is located at Manomet’s headquarters on the bluffs overlooking beautiful Cape Cod Bay, in Plymouth, MA, 45 miles south of Boston.

2010 Earth Eve Parade Always Fun: Massachusetts’ only Eco-Friendly Parade

Make a statement to address climate change! On Thursday, April 8th, at 5:00 p.m., attend New Bedford’s Earth Eve Procession. The day will be filled with fun, as the group parades along the route with their eco-floats. Eco-floats are anything a person or group can wear, roll, or carry. The main topics of this event are reducing, reusing, and recycling. The procession will begin at 5:30pm, at the Custom House Square (corner of William St and Acushnet Ave in New Bedford), and travel through the downtown historic district, along Acushnet Avenue to the reviewing stand, where Mother Earth and Father Ocean will then be crowned. Held during New Bedford’s AHA! Night, this collection of people-powered floats is Massachusetts only eco-friendly parade.

The rules:
• Each float must consist of items that can be rolled, carried, or worn, along the length of the parade route (just over a mile).
• Floats must be fossil fuel free.
• Participants must arrive at the gathering point (Custom House Square, corner of William St and Acushnet Ave, downtown New Bedford) no later than 5:10pm on April 8, 2010.
• All groups/participants must complete the registration, here.
